Challenge
The client was operating with a legacy SharePoint intranet that relied on out-of-the-box features and basic customizations. Their classic pages were cluttered, non-responsive, and difficult to navigate on mobile devices. Content updates were manual, and employee engagement with the intranet was low.
In addition, the organization wanted to explore the modern SharePoint experience but found limitations in layout flexibility and integration with business applications.
They needed a unified solution that retained key legacy functionality, introduced responsive design, and brought modern usability.
Solution
We implemented a hybrid approach to modernize the intranet:
For the classic environment, we enhanced internal-facing pages using Bootstrap 5, improving layout consistency and ensuring full mobile responsiveness. Custom web parts were developed to centralize news, policies, and quick links, creating a user-friendly landing experience.
For the modern experience, we used SharePoint Framework (SPFx) to develop reusable components and custom extensions. SPFx allowed us to overcome default design limitations, integrate Power Automate flows, and connect to Microsoft Teams and Planner for streamlined workflows.
